What Industrial Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health
Industrial Engineering is responsible for enhancing and developing processes, layout and associated tools. Identifies, analyzes and implements new or existing technology to optimize business processes. Designs process improvements to reduce cost, cycle time, improve quality and/or increase throughput. Directs external resources and contractors as required.
Work with the latest technologies in distribution, fulfillment, and material handling field including robotics, mobile robotics, autonomous vehicles, goods-to-person, AGV’s and many more. The Senior Principal Engineer must build a meaningful understanding of different parts of the Pharma Distribution (PD) segment and deliver insights to the Automation and Technology Team that will support the wholistic vision and strategy on Automation throughout the PD operation. The role will require use of data analytics, cross-departmental relationship building and leadership. The Senior Principal Engineer will work closely with PD leaders and connect different parts of the business together, facilitate the streamlining of processes, help develop cohesive strategies, and lead in data gathering and analysis to help drive key decisions to move Automation forward.
Responsibilities
Work with the Director of Warehouse Automation to develop and execute automation roadmap and plan for improvements to meet company goals and objectives.Work with Project Manager(s) during implementation phase of automation projects.Contribute to strategy and design of analytical models that will be used to drive insights to improve operational processes, identify barriers and understand the impact of special projects, providing organized project plans and developing supporting materials and recommendations.Demonstrate a thorough understanding of technical systems and logistics the distribution process.Help PD in achieving challenging business objectives and aid in coordinating automation efforts.Partner with the Operations Team, other Supply Chain contributors and stakeholders in the organization to plan and facilitate the execution of automated systems that will meet the overall business need.Manage special projects that could include supplier relationships / performance management, DC sustainability, and other ad hoc DC projects.Develop and execute action plans for improvements to meet company goals and objectives.Works in close collaboration with the operations teams, evaluates financial results and other performance and service indicators in the discovery of inefficiencies in day-to-day operations and challenges and define optimal solutions.Improves information flow and traceability between the DCs and other members of the supply chain.Collaborates with peers to achieve improvement goals across the national distribution network.Works with the operations teams to develop and implement optimum flow, storage, and layout with automated solutions.Support the operations team in testing and implementation as needed.Facilitate positive working relationships with suppliers and business partners.Provide excellent analysis of PD operational data used to design superior automated solutions.Creative engineering (information and material flow) and innovative operational solutions.Manage all aspects of training and development of warehouse supervisors and team leads.Provide excellent documentation and presentation of engineering results.Assist with future system design, site supervision, troubleshooting, and project management.Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in related field (Engineering, Mechanical/Industrial) or equivalent work experience8-12 years of experience in the automated material handling sector preferredModerate travel required to other facilities for projects and supervision of equipment installation (30% average, up to 50% at peak times)Experience with AutoCADLeadership skillsExcellent technical problem-solving capabilityStrong scheduling and organizational skillsWilling and transparent communicatorProficient with Microsoft Office SuiteTeam playerExcellent written and verbal communication skillsSuperior organizational abilitiesExcellent interpersonal skillsStrong decision making, planning and negotiation skillsSkilled at handling multiple projects/deadlines simultaneouslyKnowledge of the Supply Chain, Distribution, Logistics and Transportation industriesBasic knowledge of programing languages (SQL, R, Python)What is expected of you and others at this level
